Vocabulary Starters
There is a Flying Start to Literacy Vocabulary starter for each pair of books at the Early Emergent Reading Stage:
Guided Reading Levels A-B (1-2). These Vocabulary Starters present clear photographs that support sets of vocabulary
related to topics commonly used by children in their first year of school.
The Flying Start to Literacy Vocabulary starters provide an easy to use classroom resource.
They are designed to be read like a book or opened out and displayed in the classroom as a word bank to support
beginning readers and writers.
The Flying Start to Literacy Vocabulary starters enable the effective teaching of the key vocabulary used in the
early emergent and emergent books (Guided Reading Levels A -D)). Succinct and easily implemented teaching and
learning activities for oral language, reading and writing are provided on the back of the card.
