Paired Books

All Flying Start to Literacy titles are paired and address the same concepts, vocabulary and high-frequency words, but have different sentence structures and text types. Teachers can teach from one book and revise with the other.

The paired books at the Early Emergent Stage – Guided Reading Levels A & B – are photographic. In the other Stages – Emergent Reading to Fluent Reading- illustrated fiction books accompany photographic information books. Both photographs and illustrations provide strong pictorial support to aid comprehension.

The books provide a wide range of text types – narratives, recounts, procedures, explanations, reports and arguments or discussions.

How the paired, connected books work

The two books represented here are from Early Emergent Stage: Guided Reading Level B ( 2). Here we can see that both books relate to each other page for page, whilst offering the same content in a different context.
